Klizan to meet Monfils in Rotterdam final

Gael Monfils will start as the favourite in Sunday's Rotterdam Open final, but Martin Klizan is unlikely to go down without a fight.

Martin Klizan produced another courageous fightback on Saturday to reach the final of the Rotterdam Open, in which he will face Gael Monfils.

World number 43 Klizan saved five match points in his quarter-final against Roberto Bautista Agut and was forced to face three more before getting the better of Nicolas Mahut in the last four.

Mahut's chances came in the second set, before Klizan finished strongly to wrap up a 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 triumph.

"I will remember this tournament until the day I die," Klizan is quoted as saying by the ATP World Tour's official website.

"I never thought I could win, because Nicolas was playing great tennis. Maybe I was lucky, but I tried to fight until the last point."

Klizan will now play in his fourth ATP final, having won the previous three.

However, the Slovak will start as the underdog against fifth seed Monfils, who enjoyed a much less stressful progression as he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3 6-2.

Monfils had won 11 of the previous 13 meetings between the two and is a win away from his first title since February 2014.
