Having just missed out on a place in the record books in the first round, Phil Mickelson continued to set the pace on Friday at The Open.

Phil Mickelson cast aside the disappointment of Thursday's close brush with history as he extended his lead at The Open to five strokes.

The American - who started the day three shots clear - came within millimetres of shooting the first 62 at a major in the first round, seeing his birdie putt at the 18th skirt the cup.
He spoke afterwards of how that near-miss would "sting for a while", but was quick to get going again in Friday's second round at Royal Troon - moving to 11 under.
The five-time major winner took advantage of teeing off before the forecast rain, completing the front nine in 33.
As in his opening round, one of his birdies came at the Postage Stamp eighth hole, where he has now twice come close to an ace.
