DK Poison wins Ghana's first world title in boxing

Exactly 42 years today DK Poison made Ghana proud at the world stage.

On 20th September, 1975 David Kotei Poison became the first Ghanaian to win a world title in boxing.

He won the WBC featherweight title by a split decision victory over over Ruben Olivares at the forum in Inglewood, California.

The Ghanaian defended the belt three times – he defeated David Sotelo, Flipper Uehara and Shig Fukuyama.

Before unfortunately he lost it belt to Danny Lopez via a unanimous decision on November 6, 1976 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
