The Premiership will not rush a decision on whether to allow European champions Toulon to make a sensational move to the league and turn their back on the Top 14.

Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal wrote to the Premiership to express his desire for big-spending Toulon to secure a place in the top tier of English rugby.

Boudjellal is reported as telling L'Equipe that he wanted Toulon to make the switch either next season or for the following campaign as "the economic future is in England" and "the English make good decisions."

A Premiership spokesman confirmed to Omnisport that Boudjellal's request had been received and officials will give the groundbreaking proposal thought before making an official response.

"We received a letter from Mourad Boudjellal yesterday [Wednesday] afternoon." he said.

"At the moment it is too early to give a formal response, but we will give the matter due consideration and respond in due course.

"We need time to consider the proposal. However, the letter shows the appeal of Aviva Premiership Rugby."
