Tech Company Uber, announced today that it will start testing a cash payment solution in Hyderabad, India, marking a global first for the credit-card based mobile app.

"Tradition dictates that cash plays a big role for Indian consumers," GM of Uber Hyderabad, Siddharth Shanker, said in an email statement.
The exercise is a notable shift for Uber since it rose to prominence largely off the strength of the seamless, interaction-free credit card payment system it operates. The Indian experiment will roll out over the next week, and will be valid only for rides within the city.
