Adjei Sowah, AMA Chief Executive, according to reports directed the task force to demolish all illegal structures.

The taskforce of numbering about 60 disrupted trading activities early Thursday morning as they destroyed unauthorised structures at the interchange.

Some of the affected victims claimed they were given prior notice to quit while other squatters said they did not have enough time to salvage some of their belongings.

However, AMA officials at the site debunked such allegations and said they were informed and given ample time to quit the area before the demolition exercise.

Moses Agbor, Head of the Rapid Response Unit of the AMA, speaking to journalists said the assembly was determined to make President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

"l’ll make sure I position my task force at vantage points to make sure they protect the interest of the people within the area. I have about 45 taskforce personnel in the whole Circle and I will position them [strategically]. Some will be under the bridge and around the pavement and make sure nobody puts something on the ground and nobody sells on the pavement.

"We need the media to support us in this exercise. It is your duty to speak good about the AMA so that we can also have the courage to sustain the work, but if the media are not talking good about what we are doing and sabotaging AMA, do you think we can do it?… The president has already said under his term he would make sure Accra is the cleanest city and we have to start with Circle," he added.
