Over the weekend, many Ghanaians joined the chiefs and people of Gomoa Fetteh to celebrate the festival.
The most entertaining aspect of this festival, though, is the part where celebrants do the famous Atopa dance.
Known in the local parlance as Akosualontoba, it is a ritual which usually climaxes the Ahobaakese festival.
According to locals, the dance marks the rememberance of how their ancestor Ahor liberated them from slavery.
The Atopa dance, rather weirdly, requires men to swing their waist behind women and vice versa, in a queued manner.
A report by Accra-based Adom FM suggests the Gomoa Fetteh township is choked with revellers happily participating in the Atopa dance.
While some have criticised the dance as being sexually suggestive, the queen mother of Gomoa Fetteh disagrees.
Nana Abena Owusu believes the dance is only but an age-old ritual associated with the Ahobaakese festival.
