RELATED: 4 die in Yeji boat accident

Mr John Kpelli, Secretary of the Yeji Boat Owners Association said a rescue team made up of police personnel and naval officers were notified.

He said the team were able to retrieve five of the dead bodies on their arrival at the scene.

Some survivors were also brought offshore, with several bodies later being discovered.

The exact number of deaths is yet to be known.
