The Greater Accra regional EC Director, Kwame Amoah, said it had projected to register between 150, 000 to 155,000 people, but managed to register more than 162,000 within the 11-day exercise which ended on Sunday.
Speaking to Joy FM Amoah called the exercise “very successful”.
“In Greater Accra we never had any confrontation or any kind of skirmishes so on the whole I can say it was very successful.”
While students complained about their lack of access to enrolling, as seen by Pulse Ghana, Amoah said the EC listened and added two additional resignation centres to the University of Ghana Legon campus.
However, at the end of the exercise on Sunday 6pm about 30 students were in queues to enroll but missed out as the system was programmed to end at 6pm.
He told Joy FM the National Headquarters of the EC has been informed of the number who were unable to register.
When asked to rate the overall exercise in Great Accra, Amoah gave the operation a 9 out of 10 – near perfect.
The national organiser of NDC Kofi Adams agreed that the exercise was successful, and said at least 1.1 million people were registered according to the party’s provisional figures.
With what he had heard so far, general secretary of the NPP John Boadu said the exercise was to “a large extent” successful.
His party had raised numerous concerns about it during the exercise, including the lack of access for students.
