Wakefield Trinity Wildcats beat Catalans Dragons
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats moved up to sixth in Super League by edging a thrilling 30-28 victory over Catalans Dragons at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday.
The Wildcats were already assured a top-eight finish before their penultimate match of the regular season in Perpignan, but head coach Chris Chester has set his sights on a top-six finish and the Challenge Cup.
Wakefield had lost their previous two matches before making the trip to France, but just did enough to tame the Dragons in a contest which saw both sides run in five tries.
Fourth-placed Catalans looked set for the two points when Tony Gigot, Dave Taylor and Justin Horo touched down in the space of 11 first-half minutes after Max Jowitt's early score for the Yorkshire outfit.
Jon Molloy and Craig Hall responded with quickfire tries, with Liam Finn and Pat Richards converting all six scores in the first half to make it 18-18 at the break.
Bill Tupou and Mikey Sio dotted down either side of a Morgan Escare try to leave Wakefield leading by six points and although Fouad Yaha crossed nine minutes from time, Richards was unable to add the extras which would have levelled a gripping contest once again.
