Warriors' assistant coach Walton, 36, played with the Lakers from 2003-2012, helping the team win back-to-back NBA titles in 2009 and 2010.

He led the Warriors to a 39-4 start this season while filling in for Kerr, who missed time because of back surgery.

“We told [Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak] he’s perfectly welcome to talk to Luke as soon as this series is over and we have a little break," Kerr said.

The Lakers are looking for a replacement for Byron Scott, who was fired on Sunday.
