Wawrinka – the 2014 winner – was a class above as he accounted for the Czech 6-2 6-3 6-4 to emerge victorious from the second-round contest on Hisense Arena.

The reigning French Open champion is yet to drop a set as he prepares for an eighth consecutive third-round match at Melbourne Park.

Asked about his performance afterwards, Wawrinka said: "I am really happy. It was a good match in general.

"Three sets win against Stepanek, Hisense Arena. Didn't practice there before the match.

"So far it's been okay. Two matches and two victories. Today was a really good level on the tennis side.

"I just have to focus every match, trying to rest between, trying to be ready for the next one."

Up next for Wawrinka is another Czech in the form of Lukas Rosol.
