WBA strips Lucas Browne of heavyweight belt

The WBA has stripped heavyweight champion Lucas Browne of his belt due to a positive 'B' test for clenbuterol.

Lucas Browne has been stripped of his WBA heavyweight title following a positive 'B' test for a prohibited substance, which triggered an automatic six-month ban.

The 37-year-old became Australia's first heavyweight champion when he defeated Ruslan Chagaev in Chechnya in March.

However, Browne later tested positive for banned substance clenbuterol and has since repeatedly protested his innocence.

But a positive 'B' test led the WBA to strip Browne of his belt and invoke a six-month suspension.

Browne responded to the news on Twitter, posting: "I'm leaving everything to my lawyer, Mr Leon Margules. I thank everyone for their support, especially the people and fans of Australia."
