Ghanaians at risk as South Africans attacks immigrants

Violent attacks against foreign nationals have been continuing in Durban, South Africa.

Two weeks ago locals began attacking and looting properties owned by fellow Africans, in the wake of alleged comments by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini telling migrants to go home – although he says he was mistranslated.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians living in South Africa are also at risk as xenophobic attack is on the rise in Durban.

President Jacob Zuma has condemned the violence and has established a team of ministers to put an end to it.

However, the government said it is not yet time to bring in the army.

Over 1,000 foreigners in Durban have fled their homes and are now living in makeshift camps, under Police guard.

Violence against African immigrants in South Africa is common, with impoverished locals accusing foreigners of taking their jobs and business.
