The government of Ghana has created a committee to review all Internally Generated Funds in the country.

The committee is expected to review the existing policy which permits Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to charge fees for certain services.

The Director of Revenue Policy Division at the Finance Ministry, Anthony Dzadzra told Accra-based Starr FM that “the idea is to look really at the kind of fees we are charging Ghanaians.”

He added that they will also find out if Ghanaians must continue paying such fees and whether the charges are relevant to the operations of the MDAs.

The fees are taken by the MDAs to help them fund their operations.

Dzadzra said the committee is expected to report back to the Ministry of Finance with a tangible policy before the next budget statement is read in Parliament.

However, he said considering the “enormity of the work I doubt whether they can finish before the budget is read.”

In a related development, the Finance Ministry has indicated that it will support the MDAs in becoming self-sufficient.
