An Accra High Court has ordered the University of Ghana to pay some 205 retirees for the institution ex-gratia based on the Single spine Salary Structure.

The 205 people who retired in 2010 and 2011 filed a suit in court demanding from their former employer, payment of arrears of their ex-gratia after the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) was implemented.

According to them, they retired when the University was working on the implementation of the SSSS, which was subsequently executed in September 2011.

They further claimed when the SSSS was implemented in September 2011, they received arrears on their basic salaries because of the implementation of the SSSS, which means ex-gratia too was to be affected by the changes in the salary structure.
