The minister made the clarion call at the one-week memorial service of Afro-Dancehall musician Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng ‘Ebony Reigns’ held at St Martin De Porres School at Dansoman in Accra on Sunday, February 18.

Catherine Afeku charged all musicians to unite and use their creativity to educate the citizens on road safety, adding that her ministry is ever ready to support the cause.

“This is a clarion call for Ghanaian musicians to come together to make a bold statement on road safety…on the precious lives of talented and creative citizens of this nation. And the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will support you.”

She added that there are too many people dying from road accidents and that if Ghanaian musicians come together to make that bold statement, Ebony’s death will not be in vain.

“Let’s us make a bold statement so that Ebony Reigns’ death will not be in vain. There are too many of us dying on the road but we have to use our talent and creativity to send a message and educate the citizens (on road safety).

As we all mourn Ebony Reigns, let us immortalise this tragedy so that something better would come out of it.”

The president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour ‘Obour’ also rallied musicians to tackle road safety and create a maximum awareness.

“I survived an accident, Terry Bonchaka died from it; Suzzy Williams died in a road accident; Kwame Owusu Ansah and Vybrant Fire both died through the same horrifying accidents. We cannot allow it to continue. We have the resources and we must use them to construct safe roads.”

The 20-year-old singer and three other persons were on board a Jeep with registration AS 497-16, travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi when a head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi occurred.

The driver of the vehicle escaped death, however, two other occupants – a military officer identified as Francis Atsu Vondee and Ebony's P.A, Franky, died later at the Bechem Government Hospital after they were rushed there.
