Controversial reggae artiste and radio personality Blakk Rasta has been named as one of the headline artistes to rock Kuchoko Roots Festival on March 7.

The maiden edition festival comes off at the La Pleasure Beach and according to organizers, it will be a perfect climax to Ghana’s 58th Independence anniversary celebrations which falls on March 6.

Apart from ‘Kuchoko King’, Blakk Rasta, other artistes set to thrill patrons at the event include, Ras Kuuku, Kwame Bediako, Felix Bell, Osagyefo, Ismael Isaac from the Ivory Coast, Ras Kimono, Rhymzo, The Rainmaker Majek Fashek from Nigeria.

Organizers of the concert have promised that, March 7 will be a day where fans “will be astounded with live band music and much-anticipated performances.”

They said in a statement that, the festival will help revive Ghanaian culture and music which are integral parts of the country’s identity and growth.

“A people without a culture are like a tree without roots. Our culture is our identity that we have a duty to behold and protect. Unfortunately this has not been the case in recent years where musicians try to imitate other musicians in other parts of the world hence losing the ingenuity in our music,” organizers said.

Blakk Rasta speaking in an interview observed that “there is a massive decline in the presence of Ghanaian music around the globe. This mainly is because our musicians here want to sound like Chronix, Jah Cure, Jah Vinci, Beenie Man and other musicians from around the world.”

He lamented further that, “It's like a Jamaican trying to sing in Twi. We have a responsibility to preserve ingenuity and to tell the African story to the world. That is what they want to hear from Africa.”

The need to resurrect Ghanaian music and culture, the ‘Barack Obama’ revealed is the inspiration behind my much-anticipated album, “Kuchoko Rebellion.”

‘Kuchoko’, he said, is a new movement with the blend of African rhythms and reggae music presenting an identity to our music.

“‘Kuchoko’ is here to stay and we must preserve it for the future generations. This is a positive course in service of humanity and all must be involved,” Blakk Rasta, who hosts Taxi Driver on Hitz FM, added
