Woman kills 16 family members after allegedly poisoning husband to exit forced marriage

The 20-year-old Pakistan woman was forced into the arranged marriage in September and all efforts to exit proved futile.

Aasia Bibi allegedly hatched the diabolic plan after her family had arranged and forced her into her current marriage and all efforts to exit proved futile, after the marriage in September.

According to reports, the Pakistan woman had recently attempted to return to her parents, but was forced to go back to her husband's house.

Buzzfeed.com reports that the poisoned container of milk was used to make lassi, a yogurt-based drink popular in South Asian countries, which was then served to Amjad's family.Excluding her husband, Amjad who did not take part in the meal, the death toll has risen to 16, including a minor. Another 11 are still under medical supervision.

District Police Officer Awais Ahmad Malik is reported to have said that the kind of poison used would only be clear after chemical tests are conducted on the victims.

A senior police official said that Bibi has been charged with murder, and her lover Shahid as well as his aunt Zarina Mai were also arrested and have been charged under anti-terror law, "to deter the local people from committing such crimes," the police officer said.

However, at a press conference, Bibi has denied the allegations, claiming that she was advised to poison the milk, but she declined.

"Shahid told me to poison the beverage but I didn’t do it," she said. "He [Shahid] asked me to marry him but I refused."
