It is actually mindboggling to many people what the crown price of the conservative country, Mohammed bin Salman would want to use the image painting of the leader of Christianity for.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday citing US intelligence that, though the prince did not personally present himself to purchase the painting, he is the eventual buyer through a middleman.

The newspaper reported that the painting christened "Salvator Mundi," meaning Jesus is the saviour of the world, was bought by another prince, Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud, but subsequently, US intelligence revealed that "He is a proxy for MBS,"

Mohammed bin Salman has made the headlines recently following some drastic measures masterminded by him to modernize the conservative Saudi Arabia.

It is far from clear what somebody at the helm of a purely Muslim country would need the image painting of Jesus Christ for, hence paying such a colossal money for it.

Speculatively, MBSM may either be making moves that will eventually lead to conversion Saudi Arabia to a Christian country, or he may be using the image for some blasphemous activities.

Meanwhile, further reports indicate that the United States is closely monitoring to see what developments will unfold subsequently.
