Shoplifter in jail for stealing branded police car

A 33-year-old Toscha Sponsler who was initially arrested, handcuffed and placed at the back of the US police car for alleged shoplifting, was able to escape the grips of the handcuff and sped off with the police car whose back she had been placed.

US police have released a video of the woman stealing their car after being arrested, handcuffed and put into the back of the vehicle.

Lufkin police department identified the suspected shoplifter as 33-year-old Toscha Sponsler. After being ran down on foot, officers managed to handcuff her and detain her in the car.

However, she managed to wriggle out of the cuffs, and into the driver’s seat. The police department posted a video of her escape on Facebook, writing:

“As officers went through her bags of stolen goods, Sponsler removed her seat belt, slipped her cuffs and climbed through a window partition to the driver's seat.

“She then led officers on a 23-minute, 100 mph chase…

“Sponsler nearly went head on with two Lufkin officers and a Huntington constable during the pursuit.

“Throughout the chase, officers could see her reaching for the officer's shotgun which was mechanically locked to the vehicle.”

The suspect was finally caught, and waived medical treatment at the scene.

According to records, she is now being held in jail on a $22,000 bond, charged with escape with the threat of a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
