Two suspected armed robbers have been shot and killed by a lone ranger police officer, after they exchanged fire with him at Asankare in the Ashanti region, during the Easter festivity.

The robbers, who were on a motorbike, were said to have entered the offices of a licensed cocoa buying company, and took away an amount of about Gh¢580,000, meant for workers salary, the Daily Graphic reports.

They subsequently decided to escape through Agogo with the money, so they used the Bompata road, the Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Ohene Boadi Bossman said.

However, the said lone police lance corporal from Bompata commandeered a landcruiser vehicle and chased the robbers.

According to the Konongo Divisional Police Commander, the suspected robbers burst their tyre on their way and so they stopped a taxi, where the taxi driver was said to have run into a ditch on their way. He tried to escape but was shot and killed by the robbers.

The robbers subsequently stopped another taxi and ordered the passengers out. One of the robbers decided to drive while the taxi driver was taken hostage at the back of the seat.

The police officer, however, managed to close in on them and shot through the car after giving a warning shot.

This made the driver lose control, resulting in the taxi veering off the road and hitting a nearby house.

The robbers then exchanged bullets with the police. However, the police officer entered someone’s bedroom and managed to shoot the robbers from behind them, killing them on the spot.
