According to the president, such critics lacked understanding of the points he was making in the said speech.
President John Mahama during his independence speech at the Black Star Square in Accra called for unity and the contribution of every citizen to the development of the nation.
He added that “the successes and failures of this nation belong to all of us because this country belongs to all of us.”
But, the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the speech was disappointing, adding that the president failed in addressing some of the challenges the country is facing.
Responding to the flagbearer's claim on Accra-based TV3, the president said “I guess they don’t understand the importance of the Independence Day speech.
“Maybe they might have their motive for saying that but I have delivered about three similar speeches and none has been described as empty," President Mahama added.
