Military prepared to protect Ghana from terror threats - CDS

An induction church service has been held at the Presbyterian/Methodist church in Burma camp for the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and the Chief Air Staff (CAS).

 

The service held on Sunday morning at the Burma camp was attended by over 300 people including families of the inductees, Air Marshal M Samson- Oje (CDS), Real Admiral P.K Faidoo (CNS) and Air Vice Marshall MMT Nacai (CAS).

Delivering the sermon of the service was done by RT Rev Col W Jonfia (Rtd) the bishop of Winneba Methodist Church of Ghana on the theme “Jesus Christ our master shepherd” it entreated the new service chiefs to rely on God for direction and the wisdom to lead and also be patient and firm in their discharge of their duties.

Rt Rev Col W Jonfia was also the bishop of the Burma camp Presbyterian/Methodist church until his retirement in 1993.

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal M. Samson Oje, thanked all loved, families and the military for their loyalty and professionalism to duty, he also asked for prayers and support from all in order to enable them to discharge their duties to the benefit of the armed forces and mother Ghana as a whole.

He touched on the two most important issues confronting the country currently – the threat of a possible terrorist attack, where he assured all present that the military was ready to prevent such attacks with adequate measures in place. He also encouraged all to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities as soon as possible to avert any attack. He further stated that in case the attack happened adequate measures were in place to respond immediately to the situation and to provide the needed assistance.

He also spoke about the upcoming elections in November and cautioned the military not to be involved in any political activities or allow themselves to be used by any political party or politician to disturb the peace we are currently enjoying.

He charged the military to remain neutral and be ready to defend mother Ghana at all times since that is their core mandate.
