Kofi Wayo charges military to withdraw from galamsey areas

The mugwump politician made the comments at the State House where the burial ceremony of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama is underway on Friday June 9, 2017.

The Graphic Online reports “he said the military high command should recall their men from the galamsey sites since it was not part of their contract with the state.

He has, however, commended the government for giving a state burial to the slain soldier saying it was the best the nation could do to show respect to the army Major who met his untimely death on the line of duty.”

About Maxwell Mahama

Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched on Monday, May 29, 2017 by residents of Denkyira Obuasi on suspicion that he was an armed robber. Maxwell Mahama is said to have been in the a nearby town as part of anti-galamsey operations by the army.

The remains of the soldier have been laid in state at the forecourt of the State House for a state-supported funeral. The family of the late officer, top military and government officials, friends and sympathizers are at the venue to pay their last respect.

He is to buried at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
