Send 17-yr-old suspect to Borstal home - Judge orders

The judge ordered that the 17-years-old should be sent to the borstal home during the remand period until the police is able to establish that he is eighteen.

The presiding judge, Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah, said that the boy, who is 17-years-old should be sent to the borstal home during the remand period until the police is able to establish that he is eighteen.

Thirty-one others also believed to be part of the crime were remanded into police custody.

The suspects have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Twenty-six people also brought to the court today [Wednesday], have been discharged by the court.

The discharge was granted upon the request of the prosecution, who explained that investigations were still on-going hence their inability to start trying them. The suspects were immediately rearrested after their release.

Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region on Monday, May 29, 2017.

A postmortem report of the Ghana Police service indicated that the suspects involved in the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama shot him severally before setting his body on fire.

A number of bullets were removed from his body, the police report indicated.
