The Minority in Parliament has described the 2016 budget delivered in Parliament on Friday by the Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper as a ‘Dead Goat Budget’.

The country’s public debt has risen to Ȼ92.2 billion cedis, Finance Minister Seth Terkper has revealed. The new figures according to him is an improvement in government’s efforts at controlling the country’s public debt.

The numbers were made known when Seth Terkper presented the 2016 Budget and Economic statement of the government. According to him, the economy has suffered major shocks for the past three years. The shocks he said include disruptions in gas supply for two and half years and simultaneous falls in gold and cocoa prices.

The minority members were carrying sheets of papers with the inscription “dead goat budget” immediately after Mr. Seth Terkper, the Finance Minister,  concluded his delivery.

Ghana has signed a Prisoner transfer deal with the United Kingdom (UK) to enable the exchange of prisoners between the two countries.

The development means Ghanaian and UK prisoners can decide to be repatriated to continue their sentence in their home countries. Addressing the media after a short signing ceremony on Thursday, deputy Attorney General Dominic Ayine said Ghana is the first country within the West Africa sub-region to enter into such a bilateral agreement with the UK government.
