Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressive Congress (PDP) has won the 2015 Nigerian presidential election from collated polls.

Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressive Congress (APC) has won the 2015 Nigerian presidential election, announced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, 30 March 2015.

According to the result released by INEC Chairman Attairu Jega, the APC won with 14,951,378 (51.70%) votes, beating incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan represents the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning 12,827,522 (44.36%) , votes.

This is Buhari’s fourth attempt at contesting for the number one position in Nigeria.

The former Military ruler garnered 51.70 percent of the votes cast, Goodluck Jonathan (PDP) 44.36 percent, Nuhu Ribadu (ACN) 5. 54 and Ibrahim Shekarau (ANPP) 2.43 percent.

The law requires a simple majority or 51 percent.

The APC candidate won in 21 states including Kwara, Kogi, Ogun, Oyo, Benue, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa and his home state Katsina.

Muhammadu Buhari (born 17 December 1942) is a Nigerian politician and a retired Major General in the Nigerian Army who was Head of State of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, after taking power in a military coup d'état.

He will be sworn in On May 29, 2015.
