"Evangelist charged for registering to vote in Ghana not Nigerian"

Vandal, who was staying in Community 1 had been in Ghana for six months and said he thought that made him a Ghanaian and so needed to take part in the recent registration.

The police have charged the suspect and his colleague for “Registering without qualification which is contrary to the Regulation 28(1A) of the Public Elections Regulations Act and giving false information to the Electoral Commission officials which is also contrary to the Legislation 28 (1E) of CI 91 (2016).

Police officials said Vandal was arrested on May 12 over a stolen phone but during  interrogation, police spotted ink on his finger.

They asked how he got it to which he said he took part in the voting registration, Police added.

But, addressing the media, Mrs. Sonaike-Ayodeji said "The man on his own maintained that he is not a Nigerian…the man said that in the first place he is not Nigerian for him to even substantiate his nationality…and in the process it was established that he was not a minister."

She condemned frequent negative reportage about Nigerians living in Ghana.
