Kennedy Agyapong jabs Nana Addo over job creation

Kennedy Agyapong has admonished Nana Addo to take job creation seriously and desist from counting almost everything government does as a job.

In January, the Food and Agriculture Minister's claim that his sector has created a whopping 745,000 jobs in 2017, as a result of the government's Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

The Minister said the government was hoping to create 750,000 jobs by the time the programme was rolled out and is getting close to achieving that feat.

"I am glad to say that when we did the calculation, we came close to 745,000 jobs created in the rural areas," he said.

The latest to join in seeking further and better particulars from Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who said the figure is an exaggeration, which he is not prepared to defend.

"If US with 300m people created 200,000 jobs in 2017, how did Ghana, with our population create 745,000 jobs under one sector?," he queried.

He has admonished Nana Addo to take job creation seriously and desist from counting almost everything government does as a job.

He charged him to be truthful to Ghanaians and fulfill the campaign promises made to Ghanaians.

"People are suffering. See, unemployment is ubiquitous. Even though President is still working and things will change, we must be truthful about jobs… How can you pay graduates GH¢400 a month and say you have created jobs," he said.

He added: he cannot pay his employees GH¢400 as salary at the end of every month.

"Even my driver how much do I pay him? My driver is a young man. I pay him GH¢1500 so that he too can do something for himself, so please, we must get serious about job creation."

He noted that things are not rosy yet, and that even for him "the whole of 2017, me, me Kennedy Agyapong I didn’t get a contract worth one million dollars…if any of them say I am lying they should come and face me," he said on Accra-based Asempa FM.
