The Minority has said although the press was vibrant and critical of the previous government's policies and efficiently played their watchdog roles which eventually contributed to the NDC’s falling out of power, the media now appears to have gone to bed with the administration of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu said the media in playing their watchdog role, should be prepared to take criticism in good faith and stop lambasting politicians who dared to point out the mistakes or their faults to them.

At a round-table discussion to assess the economy among other things, he expressed concerns over what he described as the media’s unwillingness to critically interrogate cases of malfeasance in the government.

"We can understand that the ruling government has some romance for one year in terms of its goodwill. But when a political opposition and the ranking member on finance raises that, we want to understand how GH¢177 million have been spent in the issuance of bond is not for you the media to go publishing that it is propaganda," he added.

He challenged the media to be more critical on the government charging the press to "go behind the veil; interrogate what he has said [Nana Addo], interrogate what government has said, you don’t leave it at that level that this is political propaganda."
