Provide corruption evidence against me - Ursula Owusu tells ken Agyapong

In a strongly worded statement released Saturday, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful called Kennedy Agyapong’s allegations against her as “patently false,” adding that it is “unwarranted and scurrilous.”

The Minister of Communications was reacting to corruption allegations against her by the MP for Assin Central after an Indian company he was representing in Ghana lost out on the contract to produce National Identification cards for Ghanaians.

“I categorically refute the allegations of corruption made against me in relation to the award of the contract for the production of national identification cards by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong," the Owusu-Ekuful said in a statement.

"They are patently false and I challenge him to come forward with evidence that corroborates his outlandish allegations,” the MP for Ablekuma West said.

In her statement, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful made it clear that the NIA was not under her supervision and that it was under the presidency.

"It is important to clarify that the NIA is not an agency of the Ministry of Communications; that is why the directive was signed by the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President. In accordance with the law of the land, the NIA’s reporting line is directly to the Office of the President. Consequently, as the Minister of Communications, I did not and could not have awarded the contract for the NID, or indeed oversee the process,” the minister stated.
