Akufo-Addo holds first meeting with Trump

The meeting was their first since the two leaders won power in 2016.

The meeting, held together with other seven African Presidents, was on improving relations between the United States and Africa.

Africa has been edgy about Mr Trump's foreign policy especially on migration and financial support.

In June, the US Embassy in Accra issued some new visa guidelines that require the presence of former Ghanaian presidents before a visa could be issued. The directive has since been clarified.

Also, in August, Mr Trump signed a new immigration policy to end the popular US visa lottery also known as green card.

The policy has been estimated to have affected some 1.7 million Ghanaians, according to a 2015 statistic by Pew Research Centre.

President Akufo-Addo will address the UN today Thursday on the theme “Africa beyond aid.”
