The Greater Accra Regional House of chiefs has asked the Bureau of National investigations, BNI to speed up investigations into allegations of financial malfeasance against former chief executive of the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, Sylvester Mensah.

This was after an ex-parte application filed by the Financial Intelligence Centre and granted at an Accra court.

Sylvester Mensah has however denied the allegations of financial impropriety and has assured supporters of the National Democratic Congress, NDC that he will soon be vindicated.

The Ga chiefs who subsequently paid a visit to him on Thursday have expressed displeasure about the outcome of the case.

According to the Paramount Chief of Nungua traditional area, King Doctor Odaifio Welentsi III, the chiefs have had sleepless nights ever since the investigations began.

He called on the BNI to fast track their investigations into the case.

"We are pleading with them (BNI) that they should dive into this issue as early as possible. If he is right he should know because as fathers we can't sleep because of this issue. So BNI should tell us whether we should sleep now or we shouldn't sleep forever," he told Accra-based Citi FM.
