Rawlings condemns violence at Talensi, calls for prosecution

Jerry John Rawlings has called for the arrest and prosecution of persons involved in the Talensi by-election riot

 

Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has called for the arrest and prosecution of all involved in the acts of violence in the Talensi Constituency by-election.

There were reports of sporadic shooting in Talensi following a clash between supporters of the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP.

This according to reports have resulted in some injuries and damage of vehicles and properties.

The former President in a statement charged law enforcement agencies to “act with dispatch to apprehend all those known to have participated in acts of violence, assault, shooting and vandalism” since the matter is of “grave concern.”

He further emphasized the need for a “strong message to be sent to persons intent on institutionalizing violence, especially during election periods.”

“The security agencies should enforce the law without fear or favour and without any political bias whatsoever,” the former President stated.

President Rawlings said news of the situation in Talensi was a matter of grave concern and the law enforcement agencies should act with dispatch to apprehend all those known to have participated in the acts of violence, assault, shooting and vandalism.
