Supreme Court dismisses case against CR Implementation C’ttee

The law Professor filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking to nullify the constitution review process.

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit seeking it nullify the work of the Constitutional Review Commission and declare the commission as illegal .

According the seven member panel of judges presided over the the Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood the case have no merit and will give the entire reasons for their ruling in the 29th of October 2015.

The case was brought before the highest court by a US-based Ghanaian professor, Stephen Kwaku Asare challenging the legality of the CRIC, which is leading efforts to amend certain aspects of the 1992 Constitution because he believed Parliament is the sole body that can initiate, consider and propose amendments to the constitution.

The Constitution Review Commission (CRC) was set up by a Constitutional Instrument 2010 (C.I.) 64 in 2010 as a Commission of Inquiry to conduct a consultative review of the constitution and it completed its work and was officially dissolved in 2012.
