"DKB is not the king of comedy in Ghana."

The above is the view of a majority of Ghanaians who have been monitoring the comedy scene in the country.

Derrick Kobina Bonney popularly known as DKB has recently indicated that he is still the king of comedy despite criticism over his performance at the Easter Comedy Show last week at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The former Big Brother house mate received bad press after Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings walked out during his performance at the Easter Comedy show. She later slammed DKB for using vulgar words, describing him as ‘boring’ and ‘not funny’.

But ace comedian and TV show host, KSM has asserted that DKB is still King of GH Comedy. He indicated that he still believes DKB is a good comedian and will bounce back despite the backlash.

DKB has also in a recent Instagram post stated that he is “Still the King.”

But a majority of Ghanaians pulse.com.gh spoke with disagree. So who is the King of comedy in Ghana?

Below are the views of some lovers of comedy.

KSM because  I think his jokes are intelligent and it will give you something to think about. At the end of the day it’s not just about something to make you laugh but you will end up becoming something. He is a smart guy.

Emmanuel is a social media manager

I would say Funny Face is the best. If you consider his social media platforms as well, I would say that he is big over there and also Ghanaians love him. If you look at his comedy show on TV, he is very good as compared to DKB. As for DKB, I don’t see him as a comedian. Konadu said it recently. He is not a comedy type. Even Kalybos does better than him. Who is DKB? DKB is not funny. He is not a funny guy. He is not a comedian. He is a politician, I would say or he is a foot soldier.

Appiah, a 22-year-old student from the Ghana Institute of Journalism

I will pick KSM because he has a different style from the normal comedy that we know people to do. If you look at Nigeria, theirs is a bit different from Ghana. I’m saying that because when it comes to Ghanaians we don’t match up with Nigeria even though we are coming up. But for KSM, even if KSM performs in Nigeria I’m sure he will have the crowd backing him because he has a different style to the normal we know about. He doesn’t bring in the insults. Even in serious matters, he could bring in a lighter part or a lighter aspect of a story and use it as comedy and everybody likes it, unlike others like DKB who like to be aggressive in it and not everybody likes that and as experienced by what the former First Lady did when she walked out of the programme, you  can see that everybody likes that stuff. But for KSM I think everybody likes him and I’ll pick him as my number one.

I prefer KSM. DKB really he is not funny but KSM has been doing this and for a long while and he still stands; he still has the comedy...he is funny.

Ewurasi, a 27-year-old artiste

I like Foster Romanus.

He is on and off but anytime he is on stage he performs. I prefer Romanus to DKB.
