“It’s like a sparring contest so you don’t record it on any official document” – Anim Addo

The aforementioned boxers are known to be sworn rivals, with the outcome of their last fight against each other still a subject of debate.

Tagoe, popularly known as the ‘Game Boy’ defeated Ashie in 2012. However, the result generated controversy among the boxing world, with the latter complaining of being cheated.

According to reports, the duo have not been on good terms since then.

The boxers are set to face-off once again at the Bukom Boxing Arena as part of the programmes lined up for Floyd Mayweather’s visit to Ghana.

The scheduled fight has raised concerns from certain quarters, with some questioning why the Game Boy should fight a ‘bitter rival’ when he has a world title fight scheduled for July.

But Anim Addo believes the fight is just an exhibition bout, and poses no treats to Tagoe’s upcoming title bout.

“This is just an exhibition bout. It’s a five-round bout and it’s like a sparring contest so you don’t record it on any official document. But for the bragging rights and the best to get to Mayweather, that’s why we included juvenile and amateur fights so that Ghana will be able to exhibit what we have,” the Baby Jet promotions CEO said, while answering questions at the launch of Mayweather’s visit to Ghana.

“Game Boy and Ashie have already done two or three sparring sessions and the whole Bukom was there to watch them. This is not the first time [they will be fighting]. Just because we have not brought it to the biggest stage is the reason why you might think it is something that is so difficult or dangerous. It is not.

“For them, they see it as a normal meeting, so don’t be worried. Game Boy will fight and defend his belt [in July] and possible move to another division. But for now, they are going to fight a five-round axibition bout.”

Mayweather will visit Ghana on a two-day tour from 15th to 16th of June.
