The media will need to exercise patience with us - LOC member

2018 African Women's Cup of Nations LOC member Evelyn Nsiah Asare takes us through preparations towards the tournament so far as well the impending CAF inspection of the venues for the tournament

There have been many complaints by the media and general public there seem to be some inactivity considering the tournament.

Pulse Ghana Sports caught up with a member of the Local Organizing Committee in Evelyn Nsiah Asare to ascertain how far the outfit has progressed in terms of preparations towards the tournament to be hosted will held from 17th November, 2018 to 1st December, 2018.

She first spoke what the various activities the committee has embarked on since it was inaugurated on 28th September, 2018 and also indicated the changes which need to be done with the two facilities earmarked to host the tournament.

“We have met several times, we have visited the venues which are Accra and Cape Coast.  Accra Sports stadium has been down for now and there will definitely be the need for renovation," Evelyn Nsiah told Pulse.com.gh.

"The Accra Sports Stadium was even about to get renovated before Accra Olympics and Hearts. We are now working on it.

"The LOC even visited the place yesterday and we are looking to achieve some progress before CAF come in to inspect."

CAF are set to visit the venues over the weekend and Nsiah Asare spoke on what CAF will be looking for in the inspection. She was also of the view that the media need to exercise patience with the Local Organizing Committee.

"CAF have their standards. They have to come and look at they have already done.

"They will come and inspect the venues in order to see if we still have what it takes to host it.

"From what I have seen we will be able to host the tournament. The media is complaining that we cannot host because we have not officially come out but the truth is we have to put in some amount of work before we do so.

"Mr Kofi Nsiah, Fred Crentsil the Vice Chairman and the rest of the LOC are doing their work after the visit we will come out. CAF will be in tovisit on 2ndDecembertheywill spend 5 daysbeforetheyleave.

The African Women Cup of Nations was not mentioned on the budget read by the Minister of Finance for the year 2018.

Evelyn Nsiah Asare spoke to that as well saying:

“All I can say about this matter is that a mid-year budget will be read as well where I believe this our expenditure towards the tournament will be reviewed.

I don’t rememberwherethere was a budgetfor CAN 2008 butwewereableto host. We as a committeeareputting a budgettogether.

Things about woman are being treated differently but Kwagyir Aggrey said when we educate a woman we educate a whole nation.

Let’s all assume that there was no budget for the African Women Cup of Nations but that does not mean we cannot host it.”

Supposing there are no funds form the government and we can still get support from corporate institution, Why not?"
