Messi and Ronado have herculean task to qualify Argentina and Portugal respectively for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Between these two players, they have won the FIFA Footballer of the year on nine occasions- Messi on five times and Ronaldo on four occasions.

Argentina are sixth in the South American zone of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and are even just a place outside what would qualify them for a play-off, unless they win at Ecuador and expect Brazil to at least draw at home against Chile.

As it stands now Lionel Messi needs to work out magic to help Argentina who are serial FIFA World Cup participants to qualify through the hard way.

Ronaldo executed a masterplan to qualify Portugal in a play-off against Sweden four years ago- the Real Madrid talisman scored three times to beat off competition from Ibrahimovic who scored twice for  Sweden on the night.

Cristiano Ronaldo needs to rise up to the occasion once again as danger is looming for Portugal regarding qualification for the Mundial.

Portugal are trailing group leaders Switzerland by three points, but the scales could turn in their favour this evening, since they have a date with the Swiss. A win for the European champions Portugal would ensure they avoid a play-off.

Gareth Bale failed to qualify Wales for the World Cup and as it stands now anything is possible, Lionel Messi and his star-studded Argentine side might not book a place in Russia and Cristiano Ronaldo could also be a casualty.

At the moment a world cup without these super stars is possible and I think that all lovers of the beautiful game should say a word of prayer for Argentina and Portugal, because of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

A world Cup without them would take some shine from the competition because a lot of eye balls will be on the two best players for the past decade.

Fixtures and time

Portugal vs Switzerland 6:45

Ecuador vs Argentina 00: 30
