Taylor was one of the best players in the Ghana Premier League in the early 2000s, with his performances at Hearts of Oak even earning him a place in the Black Stars squad.

He was part of the hugely successful Hearts side that won successive league titles, as well as the Caf Champions League, before moving on to also play for rivals Asante Kotoko.

In his prime the 35-year-old was widely regarded as one of the best strikers to ever emerge from Ghana, and he has now revealed that he was nearly signed by then Serie A side Brescia as a replacement for Roberto Baggio.

The Italian legend ended his career at Brescia in 2004, where he scored an impressive 45 goals in just 95 games. However, his imminent retirement at the time meant that the club needed to get a replacement in his place, leading to a near move for the Ghanaian.

“I was set to join Brescia. I went for trials and I excelled. Stephen Appiah was there at the time and he can confirm that,” Charles Taylor said on Agoo TV.

Though the move failed to materialise, Taylor went on to have a successful career, earning notable stints at Etoile du Sahel and Enugu Rangers.
