Four players – Samuel Sarfo, Daniel Darkwah, Nicholas Opoku and Winful Cobbinah – were part of a 30-man-squad invited by Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

The quartet were joined by goalkeepers Felix Annan, Richard Ofori and Joseph Addo as players from the local league who were privileged to partake in the Black Stars’ maiden training session.

Deputy Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew was one of the foreign-based players that trained with the team on Monday, and he believes the invited home-based players must take their chance.

“To be fair, some you know, some you don’t know, but there are a couple of them [local players] I know. You could see that there is quality in the players,” Ayew told the media in the aftermath of the team’s training.

“Okay, we all know that training and games are different ball games. But to be honest, they were up to the task today at training.

“I [have] congratulated all of them already to be here for the first time, [because] it’s not easy to play for the Black Stars. So if you have the chance you have to seize it as best as you can.”

It remains to be seen if Kwesi Appiah will hand any of the invited home-based players a start when the Black Stars face Ethiopia next week.
