Latif Blessing won a double of the Topscorer and Best Player of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier season
The Liberty Professional star man beat competition from Abdul Bashiru OF Dreams FC and Kwesi Donsu of Medeama to win the Most Valuable Player of last season’s Ghana Premier League.
He was crowned on Friday at the Banquet Hall, State House during the GFA/PLB awards night.
Pulse Sports writer, Thomas Freeman Yeboah enumerates four stunning moments that won Latif Blessing the Best Player of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League season.
Latif Blessing vs Robin Gnagne in the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra
Latif Blessing was the hero of the day when Liberty Professionals defeated Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the first round of the Ghana Premier League. Although, he wasn't the score of the only goal of the game, his display and the way and manner he dribbled past Robin Gnagne, the skipper of Hearts of Oak, who is rated as one of the best in the league, with ease ensured his name was on the mouth of every spectator who managed to watch the game.
Winning the bragging right against Yahaya Mohammed
Blessing before the start of the 2015-15 Ghana Premier League was involved in a light war of word with Yayaha Mohammed on radio. The youngster in just his second season in the Ghana Premier league threw a big challenge to the former Aduana Stars marksman that he was going to beat him to the topscorer's award. He went on to say that he was better than Yahaya in all aspects of the game and Yahaya Mohammed also replied, so all eyes were on these two players. They lived up to the expectation,as they made the race for the goal king a tough contest and a two house race. Yahaya Mohammed finished on top of the topscorer's chart in the first round, but in the end Latif Blessing beat him to the award by scoring 17 goals, as against the former's 15.
Transforming from a typical ball joggler into a goalscoring machine
Latif Blessing's idol in football is Lionel Messi, becasue they have a resemblance in their play-they both dribble well with the ball. Similar to Lionel Messi who added goalscoring to his dribbles by finishing on top of the scorer's chart in La Liga on many occasions, Latif Blessing who wasn't scoring plenty of goals previously made it a target to graduate and be a clinical finisher infront of goal. Scoring 17 goals as a midfielder is not just mean an achievement as an attacking midfielder in a league that 13 goals have even made a player a topscorer, before-2003-Shaibu Yakubu and Kwadwo Poku. His remarkable goalscoring feat spoke for him when competing with the other nominees for the Best Player of the Season.
Rescuing Liberty Professionals from Relegation
Relegation was really smiling at Scientific Soccer lads, as they were one of the teams in the drop zone on the last day of the Ghana Premier League. But Latif Blessing's hat-trick against Bechem United kept his team's head above waters to survive relegation which was threatening them throughout the second half of the season. Liberty Professionals owe their survival in the league to him.
