Ex-Ghana defender dismisses Black Stars' 2018 World Cup dream

Sam Johnson has dismissed any hope of the Black Stars qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia

Former Ghana international Sam Johnson says the Black Stars have missed out on qualifying for the 2018 World Cup following their 1-1 draw with Congo.

The Black Stars are facing the prospect of not qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 2002.

Kwasi Appiah's men have just two points from three games in the qualifying Group E.

“Ghana can’t qualify and that is all, this mathematics will not work. It is over for Ghana,” said the former Fenerbahce and Anderlecht defender.

“If Ghana qualify then they have to go to church and roll themselves on the floor. The only way Ghana can make it is when something happen to the two countries and they decide not to continue with the rest of the games.”

The Black Stars' next game is a return fixture against Congo in Brazzaville on Tuesday, after which they may be mathematically ruled out of qualifying if certain results go against them.

At the upper end of the group are Egypt and Uganda, who will battle to claim first place on Tuesday before heading into the final qualifying games in October and November
