GFA considering two assistant coaches to help Kwesi Appiah – Kwesi Nyantakyi
Appiah was confirmed as new Ghana coach on Monday, having come out tops over other contenders during an interviewing process for the job.
The 57-year-old will take over from Avram Grant who left the post in February after failing to lead the Black Stars to the Africa Cup of Nation title.
And the arrival of Appiah has sparked rumours of a massive shakeup in the backroom staff of the Black Stars, with the technical team in particular to be affected the most.
Reports in the local media suggest that former Black Stars players Richard Kingston,Stephen Appiah and Ibrahim Tanko will all be given new roles with the national team, with the latter being mooted as a candidate for the assistant coach role.
Although GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi refused to confirm the appointment of any backroom staff, he disclosed that the association is considering hiring two assistant coaches to complement Kwesi Appiah’s efforts.
“There is a consideration to appoint two assistant coaches,” Nyantakyi told Class FM.
”Because the head coach of the Black Stars will also head the local Black Stars, so we think it will be wise for the person to have two assistants who will assist in managing the two national teams.
“We also think the assistants should be people who are capable of being trained to take up the mantle one day in future”.
Kwesi Appiah has been handed a two-year deal to help transform the fortunes of the Black Stars, however, it remains to be seen who will be appointed as his assistant coach.
