Don't declare electoral results - Deputy EC warns media
No media house should attempt declaring the 2016 electoral results. Vice chairperson of the Electoral Commission Georgina Opoku Amankwaa has warned.
This she believes will reduce the already tense environment which comes with elections.
Amankwa said this at a media workshop organised by the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) on the theme Responsible reportage for elections 2016.
“Calling results and declaring winners ahead of the commission’s certified results is a recipe for disaster and as such the media should refrain from doing that”.
According to her, the reportage and scrutiny of the whole electoral process by the media during the elections serves as a watchdog against electoral malpractice.
She also called on the citizenry to play a vital role in ensuring a peaceful elections adding that the media should not allow itself to be used by politicians and the public to mar the peace in the country.
Election to elect Ghana's next president and members of parliament is on November 07 2016.
