Crowd violence mars Hearts of Oak vs Wa All Stars

The Ghana Football Association had the headache of creating an attractive packing to draw fans to the stadium for Ghana’s top flight competition prior to the start of the season.

Increase in attendance and interest has its own troubles which was experienced in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts of Oak fans have had a joyful ride in the ongoing season and went into their match day 6 game against Wa All Stars at the top of the Premier League table with four wins and a draw.

The possibility of a first defeat starring in the face of Hearts of Oak did not go down well with fans of the Accra based club after Kwaku Asuandzie scored the first goal of the game.

Hearts of Oak fans protested the opener and performance of match day referee Ernest Baafi, throwing missiles unto the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game was halted for approximately 6 minutes with Hearts of Oak committee chairman Vincent Sowah-Odotei having to calm down supporters before the Ghana Premier League game could continue.

The Wa All Stars players had to be guarded by stadium security as the left the football field after the win against Accra Hearts of Oak.
