The senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars will receive $1.5 million for finishing fourth at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Avram Grant and his team won against Uganda in their opening game of the tournament before beating Mali. In their third group game, however, the Black Stars were beaten by eventual finalists Egypt.
Ghana played DR Congo in the quarter final of the 2017 AFCON, a game the Black won to set up a semi-final battle with Cameroon.
Grant and his team could not make it to the final as they were beaten by Cameroon by two goals without reply, stretching the wait for an AFCON trophy since 1982.
The Black Stars of Ghana will however get a prize money of $ 1.5million for their run in Africa’s top competition in Gabon.
Winners of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon will walk away with $4 million as runners-up Egypt take home $2 million. Third placed Burkina Faso will also earn the same $1.5 million as the Black Stars of Ghana.
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) increased prize money for Africa’s showpiece after signing a sponsorship deal with Total.
