The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued a cholera alert following the onset of the rainy season.

He indicated that as the rains have set in, “some cities and towns might have experienced flooding, together with other existing risk factors, the potential and tendency for recurrence of cholera outbreaks is very high.”

Ghana has been experiencing widespread cholera outbreaks on a yearly basis during the wet season and has led to a number of lives being lost.

The disease affects citizens living across the country with the hardest hit being residents in the Greater Accra Region.

The statement added that steps will be taken to prevent a possible outbreak of the disease in order to save lives but called on Ghanaians to prevent actions which will cause an outbreak.
