Plumber kills wife with hammer in fight over GH¢200

The police in Accra have named the man as Samuel Otoo and the deceased as Rita Otoo. They got married only four months ago on Christmas Eve 2016. They lived together in Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the police, Samuel Otoo accused Rita of stealing an amount of 200 cedis from him which he claims he left in their bedroom. Rita vehemently denied.

A scuffle ensued and during that struggle, Samuel Otoo hit his wife’s head with a hammer and left her to go to work.

Mrs Effia Tenge, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, told the Daily Graphic that Samuel returned home to meet his wife dead. He took her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead by doctors.

He initially said the cause of death was hypertension but upon examination of the body, his claim began to draw suspicion with blood oozing out of the head of Rita, his wife.

He later confesses to the crime and said he took the murder weapon to his workplace.
